Community Committee 2024 Recap

How can a team of passionate individuals contribute meaningfully to the community? At Low Tide, we do it through our employee-led Community Committee.

The Community Committee consists of staff volunteers who collaborate to plan and implement initiatives that make a positive impact in our neighbourhoods. Our team works hard to ensure these projects incorporate opportunities for staff participating, encouraging the broader team to get involved and stay engaged.

Interested in the projects we took on in 2024? Here’s a quick summary:

Community Clean Ups:

This year, we joined the Gastown Business Improvement Society’s annual neighbourhood clean-up once again. We also took the lead in organizing a team beach clean-up at Kits Beach, one of Vancouver’s busiest and most beloved summer spots. The event was a chance for staff to work together outside of the office, strengthen connections, and make an impact on the environment. Interested in organizing your own clean-up? Strathcona Elementary School:

We have been fortunate to partner with Strathcona Elementary since 2020! In May and November, we assembled snack baskets for students, working with the school administration to fulfill their snack “wishlist” and ensure snacks were available for those in need. A special thank you to Securiguard and Haakon for sponsoring this initiative and helping make it possible!

Writers’ Exchange:

Writers’ Exchange is an organization dedicated to supporting under resourced children through literacy programs that help build their confidence in learning. We worked on a few projects with this fantastic team, including assisting with space preparation for the back-to-school season. Learn more about Writers’ Exchange – and how you can support their important work — here.

Food Stash:

Food Stash is a charity based in South Flats dedicated to preventing surplus food from going to waste by redistributing it to individuals facing food insecurity. Our team had the opportunity to support this important cause by sorting and boxing food on two separate occasions, partnering with PCI Development and tenants to make a meaningful impact.

From supporting local schools and organizations to helping keep our neighbourhoods clean, each initiative has been a rewarding opportunity to give back and strengthen connections within the  community. We look forward to building on these partnerships and making a positive impact together in 2025!
